A lovely waterfront area and neighborhood next to the Hudson River. Good cafes, shops, antiquing, crafts and river boat cruises.
This is a nice even walk on a paved pathway that is more like a promenade. It winds by the river and has beautiful views of the lush greenery. There are TWO parking entry points. Scroll Down to see the other entry point we have higlighted, too.
This is a medium-hard hike with some semi-steep inclines that traverse the mountain, up to a watch tower with a spectacular view. The full vista of the Catskills is tremendous.
This is a stroll on flat ground along the Ashokan Rail Trail, beside the beautiful Ashokan Reservoir. It brings you through the trees and out next to a stone wall on a bank above the water. There's also a sloping hill with some fenced-in goats! It's dog friendly (on leash) and fun for grownups and kids too.
This is the parking for the Ashokan Reservoir Promenade walk, on "our side" of the Reservoir. It's just a few minutes from our house. The vista on the Promenade, which is paved, is wide open with a few benches along the way.
This is an utterly gorgeous retreat that is deeper into the mountains of our area, with activities scheduled on their website. It's about 15 miles from Katie and Craig's house.
This is a Tibetan Buddhist retreat that also hosts activities listed on their website. It's about 20 minutes from Katie and Craig's house.
This is another entry point area to the beautiful walk along the Hudson River.
Fantastic local farmers' market runs 9 a.m. in the morning to 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon! Parking on that day can be tricky but is always doable as there ARE multiple municipal lots, so check out the website's Parking Map in advance. And note that many of us locals park down at the Kingston Mall where stores like Herzog's Hardware and Hannaford Grocery are located; then you'd walk up the road a few minutes to the Farm Market, from there. This is a FANTASTIC outdoor farmer's market near all Kingston's "uptown" shops and cafes. The town itself includes historic landmarks and the history of the indigenous Lenape & African American histories of the area.
Many good suggestions here!
This Center is minutes away from Katie and Craig's home and offers activity schedules on their website.
There are many craft beers produced with the waters of our region, some more pricey than others. This one has a brewery open to the public and it's nestled in the mountains off Route 28. Or you could go to Keegan's Ale bar and restaurant in the heart of Kingston on Saint James Street.
This is a vineyard about 45 minutes south of Katie and Craig's house. The drive down to Whitecliff could include a path over the Mohonk. As us for directions. All, beautiful - and fun. There are many local vineyards in our Hudson River Valley area boasting amazing conditions for grapes, as there are in the Finger Lakes region of NY state, further northwest.
There are many fantastic orchards with cafes and activities in our region. Westwind is one of our favorites and it's only about 25 minutes from Katie and Craig's house. They have brick oven pizza and other homemade Italian foods, with outdoor picnic tables and the orchard. If you like it there - come back in the Fall when the apples are ready for picking.
YOU PICK FUN! Bring your boots and sunscreen and go out into the fields! They have farm animals too!
Great local Farm Market with home made foods and a wonderful flower and greenery nursery.
If you decide to travel a few days before or stay a few days after our wedding, you may want to get a Day Pass at the Mohonk, which brings you inside the grounds of one of the most beautiful olde resorts in the area. Hiking is accessible for free all throughout that region; a Day Pass brings you to a walk around their gardens, lake, and rock scrambling, plus multiple trails of varying degrees of difficulty or ease. And so much more; check out their website!
NY State Public Fishing License Required at all Public Accesses along the Esopus.
To fish on the Ashokan Reservoir with us, you need two documents and a fishing pole. There is no swimming in this Reservoir as it provides water for NYC. The documents you will need are a DEP Access Permit which is Free online AND, a NY State Fishing License which is approx. $12 online. Craig's boat is located in the West Basin at Gate W27 - we *may* go fishing with our kids after our Sunday brunch!
We are members of the Solid Ground CSA which is only 5 minutes away just off our very own road! We will be gathering our wedding flowers and veggies from Solid Ground the morning of our wedding, fresh! That said: We are hoping to secure an arrangement for our guests to join into the farm's U-Pick that day so you may help us bring some flowers for our tables and vegetables to add into the Charcuterie, if you want! It's fun! Stay tuned for updates on this hopeful possibility of our communal effort (we will pay the farm in advance so you'd just be our avatars doing some fun picking!) One way or the other, THIS is where we will be gathering our gorgeous fresh cut flowers and farm to table veggies for our wedding! It's right on our road, so, it's super convenient and - spectacular, if you love organic farms! There is no retail sales at the site, so please check-in with us to see how this activity is shaping up! Thanks! See the Want to Pick Flowers For Us Question on the RSVP!
This is a retreat for The Mountains and Rivers Order (MRO), a Western Zen Buddhist lineage established by the late John Daido Loori Roshi. They do open their Monastery to anyone who wants to join their Sunday Morning Program. It is a beautiful and cloistered environment, open to first-time visitors attending the Program.
Visit the Rondout neighborhood which is on the Kingston waterfront of the Hudson River! Cafes, both on the main road and waterside. There is good municipal parking.
This Center was located in Woodstock for many years and is now based in Kingston. They often have excellent exhibitions!
Bard's Fisher Center is just across the river and often has incredible performances - if you get here on the Friday night - you may find yourself in one of the most beautiful theaters you've ever seen!
Always a great film or event happening here in this lovely local town about 20 minutes from our home!
GREAT little art house for films in the lovely town of Rhinebeck!
We LOVE Cinnnamon! This is one of our date-night favorites!
Hey Vegetarian and Vegans - A great place in Woodstock! XO !
